BILL WESTON RETIRES FROM CCRESA BOARD OF EDUCATION
Written by Peter Klein
Friday, 19 June 2009
Bill Weston is retiring after thirty years of dedicated service on the Clinton County Regional Educational Service Agency (CCRESA) Board of Education. For the last twelve years the board benefited from his leadership as president. His service has spanned the tenure of three superintendents; Larry Schwartzkopf, Larry Lloyd, and John E. Hagel, CCRESA's current superintendent. Bill has provided guidance through many administrative, educational and facility changes, including the hiring of two superintendents. CCRESA built additional south-wing classroom space in 1979, tore down the Walter Keys Portable, and completed construction of the existing Educational Center on U.S. 27 in St. Johns in 1988. Under Bill's leadership in 2002, CCRESA purchased and renovated the current Administration and Conference Center facility in Southpoint Mall in St. Johns and renovated the Educational Center.

During the 1994-95 school year, Clinton County Intermediate School District expanded its mission and became a regional educational service agency (RESA). In 2000, Bill supported an initiative to collaborate with Lansing Community College to offer new career education classes for students in Clinton County and, in 2002, successfully worked to pass the Vocational Education Millage. In 2005, a Special Education Headlee Override Millage was passed to support services to special education students and their families in Clinton County. In 2007, Bill supported the implementation of a combined CCRESA and Shiawassee Regional Education Service District (SRESD) Instructional Services Department and championed the January 2009 appointment of John E. Hagel to serve in a dual superintendency role for both CCRESA and SRESD.

Bill notes, "in the current economic environment, I think other intermediate districts should consider dual leadership roles for their superintendents." He went on to add that he has "had the pleasure to serve with excellent fellow board members who have a shared vision for the future...they will continue to move forward the positive work." Bill will be honored at a dinner at Carrabba's Italian Grill in the near future. CCRESA's administration, staff and fellow Board of Education members will miss Bill's friendly, supportive, forward-thinking personality and wish him the best as he pursues some leisure time after years of committed service to CCRESA and the students of Clinton County.
